Igor Shesterkin stopped 29 shots and the New York Rangers opened the season with a 6-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

PITTSBURGH -- Igor Shesterkin made 29 saves, and Chris Kreider scored twice to help the New York Rangers defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-0 at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday in the season opener for each team. The shutout was Shesterkin’s 16th in the NHL.

The Penguins were routed by the New York Rangers, 6-0, in their home opener. Chris Kreider scored twice for New York - one of those tallies being a shorthanded breakaway goal in the second period - the the Rangers peppered goaltender Tristan Jarry with 47 shots.
