Walmart will be closing it's doors on Thanksgiving Day for the fifth year in a row. The retail giant has announced its holiday plans with a welcome day off included for staff to spend the special day with their loved ones.

Walmart is also offering its first Holiday Deals event of the season starting in October for customers to get a head start on holiday shopping. Target also will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. In a statement last November, Target announced the policy would be permanent. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 28.

Walmart stores around the country, including Illinois locations, will be closed on Thanksgiving this year so employees can spend quality time with their families.

"Walmart stores will be closed once again on Thanksgiving Day so associated can spend the day with their families," the store said in an announcement this week. This marks the fifth year in a row that Walmart is closed on Thanksgiving. Other retail chains such as Target and Kohl's have followed suit shutting down for the holidays.
