With the worst still to come, strong winds from the tail end of the downgraded Hurricane Kirk have caused significant damage and cancelled flights in parts of Spain.

The remnants of Hurricane Kirk churned across western Europe on Wednesday, ripping up trees in Spain and Portugal and drenching France.

The storm left 64,000 people without power in southern France, with multiple roads flooded and emergency services working to clear debris. The French government has placed 29 departments on orange alert and issued a red alert for the Seine-et-Marne region due to potential flooding along the swollen Grand Morin River.

France is bracing for heavy rain and flooding as the remnants of Hurricane Kirk pass over the country on Wednesday.
